Chokumpati, Tamil Nadu, India.
My mom’s native Chokompati. Place where she was born and brought up. This is where my grandfather used to live; now his three sons live there.I was born in Chokompati (That is what my passport says). We visited this place almost every years. My dad and mom are the eldest in the family, so we had to go back to all the younger uncles and aunts marriage.
Bhuj, Gujrat, India.
Dad used to speak of this place, but I do not remember much about this place. I remember a long road, which takes a right turn, and on the corner of the right turn was a friend’s house….
Amritar, Punjab, India.
Remember quite a bit of this place. We lived in three houses here.
House 1 – was opposite to a Gurdwara (Sikh temple). At the back of the house lived the owners. A couple with one kid and the husband’s father. The grand father would take me to the Gurdwara quite often and I remember eating roti and dal.The kid had a remote control car. There was also a Guava tree by the side of the house.
House 2 – was on a busy road. Other side of the road was a playground, and close to it was a chicken shop. The neighbors (Owners) had two kids, a boy and a girl. They owned a truck, which was parked by the side of the house. Remember the husband getting a machine gun home once. There was an old wrecked jeep close to the house. This house had a Guava tree as well. I remember climbing it and may be I used to study up there. Dad’s scooter used to be parked in front of the house.
House 3 – was close to the school, just outside the air force quarters. I only remember a hand pump in front of the house and I do not think we had any neighbors here. This was the time we visited the Bhakra nangal dam and the Pinjore gardens.
Hyderabad, India.
Spend three years in Hyderabad. From 2nd grade to 4th grade. studied in the Air force school. Mom worked in a school near by. Remember the faces of one girl (Ragarangini), two boys (One of them was called Goverthen), the math teacher and the principle of the school.
Oh, this is where I knew I had a brother! My brother had left early to live with my uncle and aunt for a while. Since I was too young when he left, I did not remember I had a brother until he came back and started calling my parents dad and mom.
The neighbors (owners) where couples with three kids, Meera, Meena and Krishna.
The other neighbors where an Anglo Indian couple with two kids, Monu and Sonu. They had a Labrador called Boozo.
